Summary: The room was small, tired, dated and very cold. We booked the Michelin Star restaurant for our 40th anniversary dinner. What a disappointment. We booked the table for 7.30 and were taken through to a snug where we were offered drinks and menus. We were with another couple who were taken through to the dining room by a member of staff, We agreed on the tasting menu. Unfortunately there wasn’t a wine flight with the tasting menu but the sommelier said he would organise something. We had some appetisers and finished our drinks and waited for a member of staff to take us through to the dining room, and waited. At 8.30 I walked through to the dining area to find what was going on. We had waited so long we contemplated just going back to our room and calling it a night. The waiter explained he was waiting for us. No apology. That was the way they ran service. Why book a table for 7.30 if you were going to sit in a snug for an hour? I believe we had been forgotten. The food we had did not merit a star. Very acidic. Nice to look at, but really strange combinations. The next day on leaving we explained our issues and were met with indifference. It was explained we don’t like to rush people through and we like the customer to enjoy their drinks as they have a policy of not taking drinks through to the dining room. Again no apology. The Manager did not seem to understand that you only get one 40th wedding anniversary. We will definitely not be returning.
