A modern built house, yet with nods throughout to the Provençal style: wide arches and cool flooring inside, terracotta roof tiles and dry stone terracing outside, with rows of olive trees, rosemary and lavender in the sprawling grounds.
At the hub of the house,thewonderfully spacious living room has a double height ceiling whichhelps maintain a cool atmosphereand plenty of light floods in through two large glass doors. Here, an eminently comfortable home from home feel has been achieved, with furniture arranged in two seating areas as well as the more informal mezzanine above. A well-equipped modern kitchen sits beside the country style dining area, which in turn leads out to a covered dining terrace for delightful al fresco meals. Oriented towards the south, all rooms walk out onto various terraces which enjoy an outlook over the garden and, beyond that, superb far-reaching views across wooded hillsides.
As the property borders on forest, there are woodland trails to explore on foot or bike literally from the doorstep. Local provision shops and a selection of good restaurants can be found in Seillans (5km), a truly atmospheric 'village perché' with narrow cobbled streets and leafy squares. At some point during their stay, guests will certainly want to sample the wines produced at the nearby Chateau des Selves vineyard (2.5km), and lovers of French cuisine may be tempted to sign up for a course at the local cookery school which is run by a professional chef.
Keen golfers may want to try the two 9-hole courses at Terre Blanche (15km) and for some fun on the water head to Lac St Cassien (22km) where boat, canoe and pedalo hire is available. Furthermore, the bustle and glamour of the Cote d'Azur lies within easy reach to the south, with the celebrated resorts of Fréjus-St Raphaël and Cannes-Mandelieu under an hour’s drive.
Tiered grounds with some drops and 3 steps in living areamean that young children would need supervision. Local access is via an unmade track, unsuitable for low slung vehicles. The pool has been fully fenced since these photographs were taken. The owners respectfully request that guests do not smoke inside the house.
