Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Our (2 people) sole purpose for staying here was to attend the Monaco F1 Grand Prix on 3 consecutive days and the flat and location was perfect for this. A 2-minute walk to the Opera tram stop, which is only 3 stops to Nice Ville train station for the direct train to Monaco, absolutely perfect. This flat is all about location. An artisan bakery on the corner that opens from 6.30am each day! A Spar 2 doors up from it, a bit pricey, but well stocked and convenient. There is a Monop supermarket a few hundred metres in front of the fountain, so about a 5 – 10-minute walk from the flat, which is a bit cheaper. On the corner for the bakery look left and there is the Opera tram stop up a few steps – but you can walk on the road without steps, look right and there is the sea a 2-minute walk. The first road you cross to get to the sea, look left and there is the flower market, lots of stalls, well worth a visit. It’s not open every day and closes at 1pm. This is the street where a lot of restaurants are. We ate at Carmela, right at the end and a recommendation from Sarah, it was wonderful and a bit quieter that end of the street. In the evening the stalls change to jewellery, leather, magnets etc. It was lovely to wander through. We basically only slept and ate breakfast (usually from the bakery) in the flat. We didn’t use the balcony as too overlooked for us, but we knew that from the photos so wasn’t a surprise. We found the shutters on the living room great for keeping it cool and blocking out sunlight. We found it easiest to close the living room shutters by going out the second bedroom door onto the balcony. We only used the bedroom by the kitchen and there was sufficient hangers and drawer space for us. The shower was lovely and hot. The air con was really effective when it was needed. We didn’t use the beach towels but we saw them and that would be a real help and save on suitcase space.

Negative: This isn’t so much what we didn’t like as it didn’t affect us, but might help others. The pictures show a window, with no blind, from the kitchen to the bedroom (pic has a microwave behind the sink, but that lives on the fridge). You walk through the kitchen area to the bathroom and you can see in to the bedroom, so you might just want to make sure you’re comfortable with whoever is in bedroom 2 gazing at you whilst you’re asleep 😉 As I’ve said we only ate breakfast in the flat so it was fine for us. There are 4 stools for the breakfast bench, but a combination of a lower shelf and a drawer meant we couldn’t get close enough to the table to eat comfortably. It was fine for croissants and cereal but wouldn’t have been comfortable for a leisurely meal. That said with so many fabulous places to eat, why would you eat in the flat. There is renovation work going on in the adjoining building and we were woken on Saturday and following weekdays at 8am to hammering. Wasn’t a huge problem to us as we were then out all day and it had stopped by the time we came back. Have to say we loved the quirkiness of the flat.
