Positive: This was my second stay at Whately Hall and I was very well looked after. I arrived early and my room was not ready but by the time I had had a spot of lunch in the bar the excellent Dan at reception was able to sign me in. My room was comfortable in the slightly creaky way of these older hotel buildings - full of character but very comfortable. There was copious hot water and decent pressure in the shower. The bed was comfortable and I slept very well. I was very well looked after by Kiren in the bar and had a good supper and couple of glasses of wine. I thought it was all pretty good value. There is a large screen showing Sky Sport in the bar and an excellent darts room. There is masses of off-road, secure parking.

Negative: The hotel is great but Banbury is quite a lively place so perhaps this is not the place if you are seeking peace and quiet. A few locals in the bar seemed blissfully unaware that there were other people present. They were perfectly charming but quite loud!

Summary: Good value for money for a stopover...
